Weekly runs were held every Monday during this period. Attendance during our weekly runs average about 25 runners. We occasionally play host to guest runners from the PJ Animales, Ipoh and Batang Kajang Hash. Some memorable runs during this period included:
(i) CT Hammer’s Run at the Sg. Palai Water Treatment Plant on 10-09-07: During this run all the front runners found themselves in the middle of the jungle with no paper to follow and no path out. Trust Charlie to organize a sing song session to keep up morale while we waited for co-Hare Toluk and the back runners. The Bhai’s excuse? “Itu monkey sudah makan paper”. All followed Toluk out to hit the BW at about 8.45 pm with KK and Char Lan falling on their bums numerous times on the slippery laterite road.
(ii) TR Wangker’s Run in Sahom on 11-04-08: This must be the most torturous run of the year! All runners (except Char Lan and Babu) came back after 9 pm. Rain brought up the leeches and made the last part of the run extra slippery. All who survived had tales to tell of how many times they fell while going along the side of a steep slope.
Only one “real” search party was sent out during this period. This was when China “disappeared” during Johnson’s run at the Orchid Farm, Temoh.
Some forgettable runs included Lap Cheong’s run in Buddha Hill, Lousy’s run in Kampar Jaya and Stone’s run in West Lake where the front runners were back by 45 minutes.
Besides our weekly runs, we also organised/attended the following events: (i) 26th Anniversary Run, 22nd Sept. 2007 This run was held the evening before our 27th AGM at the D’ La Salle field. 17 members took part including once in 5 years runner Johnson. Thanks to Charlie, Pattaya and Pari for volunteering to set the run.
(ii) 6th Batang Nash Hash, 6th October, Commonwealth Park More than 20 members signed up for this run. Although some were late for ht e start of the run, they still completed the run before joining in the festivities. Food and beer were plentiful and it was early morning before we went back to our chalets. The next morning, the PJ Animales brought their families. More food and beers followed and about 10 members stayed until about 4 pm before heading back to Kampar.
(iii) Deepavamas Torchlight Run, 1st December, 2007, Banir
As per tradition, this torchlight run was sponsored by our Indian members around Deepavalli time. We had Tiger Lee and Pussy Hunter of the PJ Animales as guests. All had a good time at this run. Special thanks to Peter the Lickman for setting up the tent.
(iv) Bukit Kayu Hitam Full Moon Hash Invitation Run, Friday,14th December, 2007
The main attraction was the venue, near Thighland, and not the run. Not sure if those who attended enjoyed the run but I am certain they had a good time in their hotel rooms.
(v) Lap Cheong’s Daughter’s Pre-Wedding Run, Lap Cheong’s House, Bandar Baru
This was held one day before the actual wedding dinner. Hailam and his cap chai set the run and the tent was by courtesy of Peter. 17 members did the run while many others turned up later to enjoy Lap Cheong’s hospitality.
(vi) New Year’s Run, Sunday 30th December,2007, Kuala Woh
The main man for this run was Toluk, who single-handedly set the run and arranged for 3 tables of food in Tapah. This old man is so tough, even tigers refuse to eat him for fear of breaking their teeth and getting indigestion! Those who ran, enjoyed a 1+ hour solid run and cold/hot bath in the Kuala Who hot spring before adjourning to a Jalan Pahang Chinese Restaurant for dinner and more booze. Special thanks alsso to Peter, CT Hammer, Rose Chan and Sky for arranging the transport from Kampar Club.
(vii)Chinese New Year Dinner,Hup Hei Restaurant, MDA, 2nd February, 2008 This was the usual dinner given by Chinamen to entertain our non-Chinese members. Present at the dinner were many out of state members such as Lobert, Ah Hooi and Pop-Pop. All had such a good time that some members started to “misbehave”.
(viii)Ipoh 3H CNY Dinner and Dance, Chin Woo Hall, Saturday,16th February, 2008
KJ3H took 2 tables to support our Ipoh brudders. The food was OK but the beer flowed non-stop. A few members took to the floor to show the Harrietes their fancy foot-work but most were contented to sit back and caress their beer glasses while watching the action.
(ix) Tobi’s Farewell Run, Saturday, 22nd March, 2008, Shooting Range After about 2 years with Kampar Jaya, Tobi has decided to “balik kampong” and this run was called organised to bid him farewell. Tobi was so sad to leave that he drowned his sorrows with plenty of beer and whisky.
(x) Buttereworth Hazards’ 777th Run, 7th June 2008, Sungei Lembu As usual, the main attraction of any run in the North, is the closeness to the Thigh border! Over 20 members went in 1 bus and a few cars. The run started from an abandoned industrial estate up newly a planted palm oil estate before entering jungle and down a fruit orchard before returning to the Beer Wagon. Later in the night Lap Cheong showed some members his favourite watering-holes in and around BM while others headed North for some foreign attractions. Unfortunately, news of our foreign misadventures leaked back to the “Home Ministry” and a few members had a hard time lying to their wives how they spent Saturday night!
(xi) Hiking and Camping up Gng. Bujang Melaka, 19th-20th July, 2008 After a lapse of more than 10 years, 13 KJ3H Hash men and 2 porters made this trip.12 of us made it to the top. 2 turned back and 1 stayed back to guard the tents. All had a good time although our camping skills could stand some improvement.
During the 2007—2008 period we also managed to print Hash Sarungs and Hash Stickers bearing the Smoking Serow Head logo for sale/distribution to our members. The sale of both items is still on-going.
MEMBERSHIP During the year we had 2 members, Monkey and Tobi, leaving us but we also had 6 new members joining us. There were Ken (Stone), Tat2, Rubber, John Pat-Pat, Pub Lim and Tanker 2(re-joined) as well as ChinaKooi returning from the US of A. We now have 46 members consisting of: Out of state members—6 On medical leave—1 On study leave—1 Regular members—38
In closing I would like to thank all KJ 3h members for their support and cooperation during the 2007-2008 period. Special thanks to Pari, CT Hammer and Maggi for arranging our drinks, not forgetting Toluk and Pattaya, our ever willing co-hares.
